Udupi: Seven-year RI for Chain Snatcher

Udupi, Aug 20: On Friday, district and sessions judge, Narendrakumar B Gunaki, sentenced a chain snatcher to seven years of rigorous imprisonment (RI), after finding that charges against him have been proved.

The accused, Vadiraj (27) from Doddanagudde here, was facing the charge of coming in a motor bike and taking away gold ornaments from the neck of a woman. A woman from Handadi near Brahamavar in the district had complained that the accused, who came in a motor bike, had stopped his vehicle near her and addressed her as if he knew her well. When she was responding to his queries, he suddenly yanked away two gold ornaments worth Rs 1,67,000 from her neck, and sped away in his motor bike, she had alleged.

The Brahmavar police had registered a case. Investigation was led by circle inspector, Girish, and Brahmavar circle inspector of police, G Krishnamurty. Public prosecutor, T S Jituri, had appeared in the case on behalf of the prosecution.
