Mangaluru, Sep 27: Grandparents are the family's greatest treasure, the founders of a loving legacy, the greatest storytellers and the keepers of tradition. With this sentiment at its core, Manipal School in Mangaluru celebrated Grandparents’ Day with unparalleled zeal and enthusiasm on September 23, at the Marena Sports Complex, Attavar.
The event was graced by the presence of the esteemed chief guest, Indira Varma, a distinguished educationist with over five decades of experience. Even in her 80’s her vibrant spirit is a testament to her unwavering commitment to education. Varma's presence added depth and wisdom to the Grandparents’ Day celebration.
The tiny tots of the foundation level extended a warm welcome to the chief guest, Indira Varma; principal of Manipal School, Anuradha Shivaram and to all the grandparents with beaming smiles as they handed over the emoji badges.
The programme commenced with a serene prayer, setting a tone of reverence and gratitude. It was swiftly followed by a dynamic welcome dance by the students of Grade 10. Adding to the charm, the adorable little ones from nursery and prep 1 took the stage next, treating the audience to yet another delightful welcome dance. Their innocent enthusiasm was a testament to the joy and celebration of this special day.
In her address, Varma emphasised the role of grandparents in the formative years of a child drawing her own life experiences. She shared her valuable insights on the enduring bond between grandparents and their grandchildren.
The ambience was undeniably nostalgic as the grandparents were welcomed into an environment of variety entertainment programmes that continued to thrive the wisdom, love and guidance that grandparents bestow upon their grandchildren. It was clear that the students from nursery to grade 2 and their teachers had put in a lot of effort to make this day unforgettable for their beloved grandparents.
Principal Anuradha Shivaram, expressed deep appreciation for the presence of all the grandparents at the event. She emphasized the pivotal role grandparents play in shaping values in their grandchildren. Furthermore, she offered a gentle reminder to the grandparents about the importance of taking good care of their health.
On behalf of all the grandparents present at the event Hamad Bawa, grandparent of Hamdan of prep 2 and Shehnaz, grandparent of Zihan of nursery, conveyed their sincere appreciation to Manipal School for hosting this special event dedicated to them. They expressed their profound sense of privilege in being part of this wonderful institution, highlighting the school's unwavering commitment to consistently making them feel special year after year.
After the cultural programme, grandparents were encouraged to participate in a series of heart-warming bonding activities with their grandchildren. These activities included joyful dance moves and a handprint session creating cherished memories together.
As the event drew to a close, the air was filled with a sense of contentment and happiness. The Grandparents’ Day celebration at Manipal School was not just an event, it was an opportunity for the younger generation to express their love and respect for their elders and for grandparents to feel cherished and valued.
Grade 2 students Mivaan and Jeevika, under the guidance of Lavina, compered the programme, while Yusra delivered the vote of thanks.
