Mangaluru, Sep 27: P A College of Pharmacy, Nadupadav, celebrated World Pharmacist Day to showcase the theme ‘Pharmacy Strengthening Health System’ by visiting an old age home housing psychosis, depression and leprosy patients in the outskirts of the city.
To inaugurate the programme, Uday Kishor, assistant drugs controller, Mangaluru was invited as chief guest. He underlined the significance of the pharmacy profession in his inaugural speech. Dr Surfaraz J Hashim, principal P A First Grade College, termed the profession as a service based profession. Dr Sajeesh, principal P A Institute of Physiotherapy invited the pharmacist for collaborative work. Prof K P Sofie, principal P A Polytechnic and Sharfuddin AGM campus graced the occasion as guests of honour.
Earlier, Dr Muhammad Mubeen, vice principal, welcomed the dignitaries, and Sahil, 3rd year BPharm student, invoked verses from the Holy Quran. Dr Saleemulla Khan outlined the importance of the pharmacy profession and World Pharmacist Day in his presidential address. Dhanya Iyyer administered the pharmacist oath of FIP, and Nishmitha thanked the dignitaries in her vote of thanks speech. The program concluded with national anthem.
The staff and students of P A College visited the old age home called ‘Olavina Halli’ in Kenya, Mangaluru. A well-managed ashram with about a hundred inmates, old aged, destitute, chronic ill patients with psychosis, depression, and few leprosy patients included. Students and staff interacted with them and tested their vitals. Each inmate received the students with smiling face. The management welcomed the visitors, briefed about the ashram and thanked. The programme concluded with a lunch for the inmates of the ashram sponsored by the staff and students.
