Hypothyroidism is a common disorder due to the decreased production of thyroid hormones, seen especially in girls/females. Weakness, tiredness, feeling cold, constipation, weight gain in spite of loss of appetite, hair loss, dry skin, hoarseness of voice, menstrual disorders and swelling in the neck are some of the symptoms of hypothyroidism. It can be effectively treated by taking a hormone called 'thyroxine'.
Hyperthyroidism is another common disorder, due to increased production of thyroid hormones. Weight loss in spite of increased appetite, heat intolerance, sweating, excessive heart beats, loose motions, tremors, menstrual problems and neck swelling are some of the features. This disease can also be effectively treated by medications.
