Mangaluru, Aug 28: Rita Gladis D'Souza, a 61-year-old mother who should have been enjoying her retirement years in tranquility, is now fighting for her life.
Gladis, originally from Kulshekar, has overcome her share of struggles in her earlier years. Through hard work and determination, she managed to secure a home and provide education for her two daughters along with her husband. After what she thought were the years of realizing her dreams and settling down, fate dealt her a different hand.
Facing some health issues, Gladis was taken to a clinic by her daughter for an examination. The results of the thorough assessment confirmed her worst fears: she was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease. The medical experts from KMC Hospital in Mangaluru advised immediate placement on a mechanical ventilator and intensive care with specialized treatment. However, this treatment comes at a substantial cost of Rs 7 lakhs. To add to the family's challenges, Gladis' 73-year-old husband suffered a stroke and underwent angioplasty just six months ago. The burden of financial responsibility falls on Sonia D'Souza, Gladis' daughter, who is the sole breadwinner. Unfortunately, her income falls short of covering the costs of the necessary specialized treatment.
In an effort to save her mother's life, Sonia has already sold her personal belongings and assets to cover the initial treatment expenses. Now, she is reaching out to the community for financial support, hoping to continue her mother's treatment and restore her quality of life.
