Udupi: Mount Rosary English Medium School celebrates colourful Independence Day

Udupi, Aug 16: Mount Rosary English Medium School Santhekatte celebrated the 77th Independence Day in high patriotic fervour. More than 1550 students, parents, well-wishers and church parishioners took part in the Independence Day celebrations.

Fr Oliver Nazareth, assistant parish priest unfurled the national flag. In his address he outlined the freedom movement, process of preparation of Independent India’s Constitution, the base of the largest democracy in the world and the progress achieved during the last 76 years in almost all fields – education, healthcare, space and science, industries and agriculture. Corruption and communalism are the two diseases spreading faster than ever before, he said and cautioned the young children to be truthful and sincere.

Parish priest Fr Dr Roque D'Souza presided over the programme and extended the greetings to the gathering. In his address he said, “India is a great country of supreme ideals - ‘Satyameva Jayate, Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam which teach us to live and let others live and mutual respect for each other."

He urged the young minds to cultivate Unity in diversity and the national spirit and added that Mount Rosary taught them in letter and spirit in this temple of learning.

Vice-president of the parish pastoral council Luke D’Souza, members of the management committee, PTA president, secretary, other office-bearers and donors were present for the programme.

Headmistress Sr Ancilla Roshni D’Mello SRA welcomed the gathering.
