Expert PU College, Kodialbail celebrates Spirit of Free India - 77 years and counting

Mangaluru, Aug 15: On August 15, 1947, India entered a dawn with the greatest victory of freedom paving the path for a brighter and more promising future for the nation. It took hundreds of years for India to break the shackles of slavery.

To mark this glorious triumph, The Expert PU College, Kodialbail commemorated India’s 77th Independence Day amidst patriotic fervour at Shri Bhagavathi Temple premises with the theme “Nation First, Always First,” an integral part of the broader “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebration.

The programme commenced by welcoming the chief guest Asha Kamath, principal, programme manager, Adobe, USA along with chairman, Narendra L Nayak, vice-chairperson, Dr Ushaprabha N Nayak, IT Head, Ankush N Nayak, proprietor of Keystone Architecture, Deepika A Nayak and principal, Prof Ramachandra Bhat.

Asha Kamath unfurled the national flag followed by the singing of the National Anthem. In her address to the students, she said: “Freedom is a privilege and it comes with responsibility. Each one of us needs to uphold the democracy that is so dear to us.”

She also added, “No matter where life takes you and you get settled stay true to your roots and uphold the values that your parents and teachers have instilled in you.”

Ms Kamath insisted that students build a strong brand image of themselves to represent India on the global platform. She urged them to be a sponge as students and absorb every good thing that Expert had to offer them.

In the presidential address, chairman, Narendra L Nayak addressed the student gathering appealing to their nationalistic spirit and urging them to take pride in being an Indian and fulfilling one’s duty with responsibility. He also emphasised the youth to take inspiration from great leaders of the past who have dedicated and sacrificed their lives for nation-building and defined the role of today’s youth as a country's true wealth.

As part of Independence Day, various competitions like essay competitions, pencil sketching and painting competitions were conducted for the students. The prize winners were awarded. The winners are as follows:

English Essay Competition:
First Prize - Jahnavi Shenoy – C1 Batch
Second Prize - Nayaab Kauser Sheikh – B2 Batch

Kannada Essay Competition
First Prize – Shreya S – C1 Batch
Second Prize – Pratijna Rai M – D2 Batch

Hindi Essay Competition
First Prize – Abhijna D Shetty – E2 Batch

Painting Competition
First Prize – Harshitha – F2 batch
Second Prize – Maanya Ashok – D1 Batch

Pencil Sketch
First Prize – Chaitanya – E2 Batch
Second Prize - Kshamya R Bhandary – C1 Batch

The College student council for the academic year 2023 – 24 was also inaugurated. The names of the most coveted posts were announced.

Dr Ushaprabha Nayak, vice-chairperson administered the oath to the student council members pledging their duties as proud citizens of not just the institution but also the nation.

The Student Council Members are as follows:
1) President: Chandira Bhat of D2
2) Secretary: Adithya N of F2
3) Cultural Secretary for girls: Abhijna Dayanand Shetty of E2
4) Cultural Secretary for boys: Sarvasva of C2
5) Discipline Secretary for girls: Prajna K of E2
6) Discipline Secretary for boys: Dheeraj V of E2

In her address to the student bodies, Dr Ushaprabha said, “Only as a leader  can one be the future of India and not by being a slave.”

She also stated that each one of them was a leader and must do his/her best for the country.

Students also rendered the ‘Vande Guru Parampara’ song to give a salutation to the lineage of the nation's great gurus. The programme was hosted by Ruhan Darshak of the A1 batch, Niyathi Shenoy and Kathyayini of the C1 batch.
