Udupi: Thousands of Devotees Partake in ‘Mari Puja’

Udupi, Jul 28: ‘Mari Puja’ was held with pomp and gaiety at the historically famous Marigudi temples in Kaup, near here, on Tuesday July 26 and Wednesday July 27.

Celebrations are held in Marigudi temples in Kaup thrice a year, during July, December, and March which has great significance in Tulunadu culture.  These celebrations are being held at the Hale Mariyamma Temple, Hosa Marigudi, and Moorane Marigudi.

Thousands of devotees from the undivided Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, and Malnad districts as well as neighbouring Maharastra state, and Kasargod district of Kerala, arrive at Kaup to partake in the puja celebrations annually.

The devotees offered sacrifices of sheep, goats, and roosters to the temple deity Goddess Mariyamma on Tuesday and Wednesday.
