Kundapur, June 8: Karnataka Adivasi Rights Coordination Committee Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district committees have warned the government of a protest rally and public meeting at Padubidri at 10 am on June 10 opposing the move to imprison Koraga community youths on false cases.
Udupi district Karnataka Adivasi Rights Coordination Committee district convener Sridhara Nada in a press release said that the protests will be held urging for reinvestigation of the incident at Padubidri police station limits.
“A local person accused of committing atrocities on Koraga community youth and women at Inna Microwave station vicinity has got a false case of robbery registered against Koraga community youth and made him undergo 35 days of judicial custody. The police who should have arrested that person and registered a case have colluded with him and are playing with the future of the poor and innocent Koraga youth. The police refused to accept the complaint of a woman who was repeatedly insulted by the accused. The police who should have maintained secrecy about the victim have insulted her in front of other men and persuaded the Koraga community to withdraw the complaint filed by them,” Sridhar Nada said.
“The protest will oppose the suppression of the community by the police instead of standing for their safety. The protest will ask for the guarantee of survival of the Koraga community,” he said.
