New Delhi, Oct 19: Former chief minister and BJP MP for Haveri Basavaraj Bommai has made it clear that he does not want the party ticket to his son for the Shiggaon assembly constituency in the forthcoming by-election.
Speaking to media persons in New Delhi on Saturday, Bommai said he had come to Delhi for discussions with BJP national president J P Nadda at his invitation.
The senior BJP leader mentioned that local leaders from Shiggaon wanted the party ticket to be given his son Bharat Bommai as the by-election is necessiated following his resignation on being elected to Lok Sabha from Haveri parliamentary constituency.
Bommai said he was not aware of any discussions between the local leaders and the people, who are insisting on the BJP ticket his son Bharat as he has worked well in the constituency for so many years. But for personal reasons, Bommai has requested that his son not be given the ticket. All these matters will be discussed with Nadda, he said.
The former chief minister said a strategy is being formulated to win in all the three constituencies: Shiggaon, Sandur and Channapatna.
“After the parliamentary board meeting for Maharashtra and Jharkhand, Nadda will give them time to discuss the Shiggaon by-election. The candidate for Shiggaon will be chosen based on the potential to win, and everything will be
discussed in tomorrow’s meeting,” he said adding: “They will strategise to ensure a BJP candidate wins in Shiggaon and Sandur, while an NDA candidate wins in Channapatna. For this reason, Nadda has called for the discussions.”
Bommai said after the Congress government came to power in the state, farmers have faced significant difficulties. Last year, during the drought, the state government did not provide any form of assistance. This year, floods have occurred,
and the government has not responded adequately. No developmental activities are taking place. Even legislators from the ruling party are speaking out against the government. The financial situation is dire, and many officials are showing
helplessness.
“It is against this backdrop that the by-elections are being held. As a national party, they are taking this very seriously. The BJP leaders are working on a strategy to ensure that the party candidates win in Shiggaon and Sandur, and the NDA
candidate wins in Channapatna. I will discuss all these matters with the national president,” he added.
