Mangalore, Jul 18: ‘Chittara’, a group of seven enthusiastic youth in support of art, literature and social service organized a prize distribution programme for the winners of state level article writing competition at Woodlands Hotel here on Sunday July 17.
On the occasion scholarship were handed over to five Koraga community students with the help of Jana Shikshana Seva Trust.
DK district Kannada Sahithya Parishad president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura presiding over the programme said that this is a noble team work of likeminded people of organizing state level article writing competition and supporting them with the prizes.
At the same time he said recent approach among youth who depend on others for everything and develop a habit of carelessness is unfortunate. He added youth who abandoned art and literature will lack most valuable delight of the life; hence the work of teams like ‘Chittara’ who are doing their work silently is appreciable.
P B Harish Rai, president of DK district Journalists’ Union said that those who are helped now should remember this and return something to ‘Chittara’ though it is not taken as loan, but their help will make ‘Chittara’ to help more such poor students in society, that is how organization works, he said.
Santhosh Shetty, E Fernades, were the chief guests. Former Mayor Shashidhar Hegde was also present.
First prize winner Dr Navin Kulamaruva of Kasargod, second prize winner Umadevi of Bantwal and third prize winner Lateef of Belgaum were awarded with Rs. 3000, 2000, 1000 and memento respectively.
Chandravathi Rai Palthady, Lorens D’Souza Ujire, Santhosh Arandady, Narayan Rai Kukkuvalli, Padma Kulakarni, Divakar Shanbaug were given consolidation prizes.
Chittara members Krishna Bhat, Chandrashekar Pathur, Sudhakar Thingalady, Satish Ira, Ramakrishna, Venkatesh and Dayanand Kukkaje were present.
