Udupi, Jul 1: Herga village accountant, Narayan Poojary, was nabbed by the Lokayukta officials while accepting bribe from a farmer on Thursday June 30.
A person named Anil Kumar from the town had inherited 19 cents of land. He wanted nine cents of the agricultural land to be converted for non-agricultural purposes. He had submitted an application in this connection to the village accountant. Poojary invited Kumar to the office on Monday. When Kumar approached the village accountant, he reportedly demanded for a bribe of of Rs 1,150 for himself and his assistant towards preparation of sketch.
Anil Kumar complained to the Lokayukta, who handed over a voice recorder to him. During Poojary’s visit to the land for preparing a sketch on Tuesday, Kumar approached him again, and recorded the village accountant’s repeated demand for the above bribe. It is said that the village accountant asked Anil to bring money from any other sources, when the latter said he did not have money.
Lokayukta police raided the village accountant’s office when he was accepting the bribe. He was produced in a court, which remanded him to seven days judicial custody.
