Reliance Broadcast to Focus on Radio, TV to Spur Growth

Mumbai, June 29 (IANS) Reliance Broadcast Network Limited (RBNL), part of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG), Wednesday said it would grow at 30 percent year-on-year by increasing the reach of its radio channels and targeting top end television audience in metros.

"With a clearly articulated road map for each vertical, we are confident of them delivering to expectations, with radio and television paving the way for an augmented broadcast success story," said Tarun Katial, chief executive, RBNL.

RNBL has significant presence in radio, television and out of home advertising verticals.

"We are currently growing at the rate of 30 percent plus and we intend to maintain this momentum, over the next five years, making us one of the largest entertainment media conglomerates," Katial said.

According to the company, two new television channels will be launched this fiscal in collaboration with television channel major RTL Group. The channels will be in the reality and action entertainment genres.

"The company is exploring opportunities to grow its bouquet of channels to a significant number and also take them global over a period of time, targeting emerging markets," said a statement by the company, adding that around 40 percent of the company's revenue would come from the television segment.

RBNL currently beams four channels including three from its joint venture with US-based CBS studios.

In the radio segment, the company expects to start the phase-III of its expansion plan which will increase its radio station count by 223 new stations.

"Growth will come from the company's ability to leverage networking in a significant way, allowing for low cost expansion in tier II and III locations," the statement said.

Currently, about 70 percent of the company's revenues are generated from the radio segment. The radio business reported an increase of 15 percent in revenues which stood at Rs.175 crore in 2010-11.

For the last financial year, RBNL reported a 36 percent increase in revenue at Rs.251 crore.
