Mangalore, Jun 28:
Frustrated by the mental and physical torture meted out by her husband, sister-in-law and mother-in-law over trivial issues, a newly-married woman hanged herself in Yekkur on Tuesday June 28 at around 9.30 in the morning.

Chandrika Suvarna (22), a resident of Yekkur, daughter of Jaya Poojary was married to Pravinchandra on March 20 this year.

Soon after her marriage, her in-laws and husband began to torture her. She somehow managed to convince her husband to stay separately in a rented house in Yekkur, but her husband continued to abuse her, police said.

A case has been registered in Kankanady police station against Pravinchandra, his mother Devaki and sister Sunitha. A case has been registered in Kankandy police station on all the accused.

I strongly agree with Safa. Eventhough well educated girls in Mangalore are suffering from the interference and fault finding in bride as well as partiality among daughter and daughter-in-laws i have seen. I have strongh feelings to bring out these things to public and make some social awarness so that atleast some people (specailly in laws and hopeless husbands) will be enlighten and stop these kind of immature deaths. I cant imagine if victim had child and what would be situation!!!!
I agree with A.S Mathew. they must be punished.

Well, being born and brought up in Mangalore, my heart is saddened by the immature death of a 22 year old woman. No matter what caste, creed, race or religion, I would expect a person identified to have emotional issues have the flexibility of reaching out to Social/Community Services for help. I have left India many years ago and not sure what sort of facilities are available to distressed individuals however I strongly request that help & support knock the door of one that is in dire need of it. Always remember, it could have been you or I that could have been in her situation. We need to be sensitive and respectful of each other. Not all individuals are strong and can bear the brunt of atrocities. We need to help. May her soul rest in peace.

its not the girls who need education on adjusting n accepting his family, its the guy's family who need to accept her as family and make her feel better cos its she who is alone, and come from outside. husbands family should stop interfering in their personal life as well. its all because of the sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws all the problem begins. they always find faults in the bride and fill their mothers ears. Also mother-in-laws are partial between her daughters and daughter-in-laws.

yr comments suits for indians living in America, where women are treated equally as men.Women can ill treat husband/family family members there, coz she knows if she get divorced she gets half of the property or govt will suport her. BUT this is not the case in India.

India is a male dominated country. what MARIA said is right. here if the wife can live her own she can ask for divorce and if she can't afford to live her own or there is no parental support... she will kill hereself, at times along with kids. Also in India society treats bad for divored women.

Beautiful Picture coverage by DaijiWorld. I pray for peace in the family. Life has been given by God. We have no right to take it away, whatever may be the situation, troubles, tribulation. God has a plan for each one of us.

Daiji readers an appeal to those in extreme situations, take advice from councillors, meet a priest or guru or elders. But never have the evil inclination, that by taking your own life, you will be at peace. Remember, God does not wish such souls. They are left in wilderness.

As per the news - they have started living separately within 15 days of the marriage. Parents should teach the girls to treat their inlaws just like their own parents. At the same time husband also should convince wife to accept parents like own parents. The upbringing of children should be to live in a bigger family than going for a nuclear family. There should be proper counselling from parents.

sucide is not the ultimate solution to our problems. we have to try to live in a peaceful atmosphere. sometimes we are more arrogant to ours problems.Marriage is a bond between husband and wife, we too respect each other, should solve the problems each other.  Blame game always ends in a negative result."GOD" knows who is right and who is wrong. Now he will get married again and lead another life, killing somone elses daughter.I will blame her husband for allowing his mom and sister to interfere in this personal life. Severe punishment should be given to them.

There will be thousands suffering like this. This trend will be common unless both married men and women change their attitude .

The main reason behind the torture will always be the backbitting by sisters or bros who spoil the relationship, Two women can never stay happy in one house, however may be the people around but it is a Husband's support for a girl married.. Our life is God's gift to us and what we make of it is our gift to God! praying God for all women to make her strong

I dont think people should blame her in-laws or husband. This statement is only from the girls family. May be her husband and in-laws are in shock. It seems, she was very stubborn and within few days after her marraige, she convinced her husband to separate from his parents for which her in-laws were deeply hurt and for small reason b/w husband and wife she committed suicide.

Most of the time women are the ones who create such issues. And the poor husband is stuck in between. That is why usually the father in law is not a part of such cases. A woman should understand another woman's feeling. When there is a proper understanding, then there is no cause for any issue.

I remember one incident about a lady many years before. When this lady's husband died, some priests came to her home to shave her head and forcing her to wear red saree. Immediately Women's Association took up the issue and rushed to her rescue and chased away priests from her home.

In this case as well Women's Association must take up this matter and start a bold movement to do the inquiry using powerful media as effective tool and send the culprits behind the bar. If public do not act this will be routine matter for police and crimes/suicides continue. We have immense human power, together we can fight and send a message.

Some years back a newly wed girl, living with her hubby & mother in law hanged herself within a few months of marriage, when her husband & mother in law were not at home. Later it was found she married to save the honour of her family, while she was in love with someone from different community. She just couldn't replace her husband in the place of her first love. Fortunately she had written a sucide note & her mother in law was with her daughter from many weeks.
    Another Side of the COIN-
Recently a young man commited suicide to escape from torture of his wife & in laws, who continuously threatened him with Dowry Harrassment case as well as physical harm should he keep in touch with his family, within a year of getting married.
    SOLUTION-
Provide Helpline 24x7 for councelling & advertise it in all media free of cost- so that they can atleast try to save their souls with timely help.

Very sad and what a shame a young and beautiful life is lost for ever!. These sort of deaths will go on unless the entire society changes and get rid of its old way of thinking, taboos, and some cultures - we still carry on with our old and out-dated systems and issues like how much dowry, gold ornaments the bride has brought, the domination of in-laws, etc. The Government and the welfare agencies also have a role to play here to bring in legislation to get rid of the old customs and also offer moral support and couselling services, and they should act fast in this regard.

Why this has become "Gar Gar ki Kahani" all over India I wonder.
Well to be frank with you- many years back it was my "Gar ki Kahani"-too.
Why parents & in laws do not accept a girl grown in different environment as their own daughter or sister & give her little more time to adjust to her new environment, while they want their daughter to be treated better, by her in laws & husband.
When gender ratio is going down drastically & many eligible bachelors remain life time bachelors-these things make us bow our head down with disgust & shame.
WHY WE WON'T TREAT THEM AS LAXMI & HARBINGER OF OUR FUTURE(GENERATION).

We the Indian public are too judgemental.

She already stays at a seperate house away from in laws. Why you still blame them.

Secondly, when she was with inlaws they were the culprits and now husband is the culprit. Is it not possible that girl herself was too over sensitive and a emotional person.

may her soul rest in peace. She was a pretty lady.

We all should think about freeing our society from hatred and misconceptions and love our kids to make them secure human beings.

Most people here have already passed judgement without being fully aware of the situation, which is very immature and is a reflection of our societies attitude.

He and his family must be strictly

show any mercy to wild animals.

    Thousands of helpless ladies are
