Mangaluru: Certificate course for teachers held at St Agnes College

Mangaluru, Mar 30: The department of psychology, St Agnes College (Autonomous), organized a certificate course on 'Basic Skills in Counselling for Teachers'.

The course was inaugurated on February 10 which went on till March 28 for teachers of 17 institutions. It was a 30 hours certificate course. This course aimed at training the teachers to handle the minor problems of students specially related to confidence, using the basic counselling skills.

Counsellors and mental health professionals from various institutions took up the sessions. The course was a successful one and the Valedictory was held on March 28.

The chief guest of the programme was Sr Dr M Prem DSouza, former principal of St Agnes College (Autonomous). Sr Dr M Venissa AC, the principal presided over the programme. Sr Dr M Lydia AC superior and joint secretary, St Agnes Institutions, Sr Dr M Vinora AC, the PG cordinator were the guests present.

The programme began with a prayer song followed by a welcome dance. Divya, assistant professor, department of psychology introduced the chief guest and welcomed the gathering. In her address the chief guest appreciated the management and the convener for organizing the course which is the need of the hour. She said, "We need to be happy within, to spread happiness, our actions need to be good and we should be ever grateful in life."

Sr Dr M Venissa A said, "When teachers are trained in counselling the teachers can handle the students in a better way. And this was the dream of the management to conduct the course for the teachers for the betterment of the students.

Teachers took an oath as teacher counselors.

In the end certificates were distributed to the participants. Vinatha K convener of the course expressed her words of gratitude and Dr Hithakshi compered the programme.
