Bangalore: Nine Killed, 59 Injured in Bus Accident Near Salem

Bangalore, Jun 26: In a ghastly accident that occured near Salem in the wee hours of Sunday June 26, nine people were killed and 59 others injured. A woman was among the killed.

The injured have been admitted to hospitals in Salem and Omalur. Drivers of both the buses died, it is learnt.

The accident occured when an omni bus plying from Bangalore to Kottayam collided head-on with a private bus which was going towards Dharmapuri.

The accident took place at Sandhai Thadam village on the National Highway-7, Salem DIG Venkatraman said.

Sources said that the accident occured when the driver of the Salem-Dharmapuri bus suddenly veered to the right while trying to overtake a two-wheeler.

    Very sad news. It looks like the accident took place at the crossing as I have seen the road from Bangalore to Salem is a 4 lane road.
