Mangalore, Jun 24: Two persons, who are accused in a chain-snatching cases lodged by women in Barke police station here two years ago, were arrested by the policemen on Tuesday. They have been identified as Mohammed Shariff (28), resident of Green Ground, Belma Green House, Derlakatte near here, and Rayeez Mohammed Raza (21), son of Abdul Hamid from Hoigegadde on Uliya Road, Ullal. The incidents had occurred at Kudroli.
The main accused in the case, Jamaaluddin, had fled to a foreign country. He was arrested on April 21 from Bangalore international airport while returning. During questioning, he confessed that the ornaments had been given to a friend named Mohammed Shariff. They were pawned to a jewellery shop through Raza, who works as salesman in a jewellery shop, he disclosed.
After coming to know that Jamaluddin had been arrested, the two accused hid in Bangalore. The policemen, who conducted a search operation for them, arrested them, and recovered gold chains worth Rs 1.7 lac. The ornaments had been pawned to Shalimar Gold Testing shop, New Field Road, Car Street in the city, from where the policemen collected them.
