Mangaluru, Mar 22: Additional sessions and FTSC-2 (POCSO) court of the city sentenced a man, accused of sexual harassment of minor to 20 years in prison.
Dayananda Danannavar (30), a bus driver by profession and resident of Marakada near Kavoor, is the accused who is convicted by the court.
Dayananda got acquainted with a 13-year-old girl through Instagram. He asked her to come with him for outing on January 27, 2022. But the girl had denied accompanying him. Even then, he forced the girl and took her in an auto rickshaw on January 28 to a lodge in Hampankatta and sexually assaulted her and dropped her back home.
Dayananda also threatened the victim that he will kill her if she confided the matter to her parent. But the girl boldly conveyed the matter to her parents, who in turn filed complaint with women police station.
Justice Radhakrishna, who conducted the inquiry, pronounced accused Dayananda as guilty and sent him to 20 years in prison and also slapped fine of Rs 50,000. If the convict fails to pay the fine, then he has to undergo further four month of prison sentence.
The judge also ordered to provide Rs three lac compensation to the victim, out of which Rs one lac need to be released immediately for her education and rest Rs two lac to be kept in FD in nationalized bank.
Inspector of women police station S H Bajantri and Revati conducted the interrogation and filed chargesheet in the court. Special public prosecutor Venkataramana Swamy C argued for the prosecution.
