Mangaluru, Jan 20: The Small Christian Community (SCC) Day and Parish Day of Holy Family Church, Omzoor was commemorated with a Holy Eucharistic celebration was solemnized by Fr Valerian Pinto, Chaplain Nirmala Convent on Sunday, January 19.
In his homily, Fr Valerian Pinto stressed the need to live as per Jesus’s will. The festive was co- celebrated by Fr William Menezes the parish priest of Holy Family Church Omzoor; Fr Manohar D Souza; superior, Monte Mariano Convent, Farangipet; Fr Nelson D’Souza hailing from Omzoor serving in Archdiocese of Gandhinaga, Gujarat.
Felicitation programme was held soon after the mass which began with welcome dance by high school children. Fr Valerian Pinto Chaplain Nirmala convent, Fr William Menezes parish priest of Holy Family Church Omzoor, Fr Manohar D’Souza, superior, Monte Mariano Convent, Farangipet; Fr Nelson D’Souza, Sr Vinitha D’Souza, headmistress Holy family school Omzoor, Arthur D’Souza, vice president, parish pastoral council, Daffny Lewis, secretary parish pastoral council, Elroy Saldanha, convener of all commissions, and Dexter Saldanha, SCC coordinator and Jacintha D’Souza SCC secretary were present on the dais.
Dextor Saldanha, coordinator of SCC welcomed the gathering. Jecintha D’Souza SCC secretary presented the annual report. All former gurkars were felicitated during the function for their fruitful service during their tenure, also a felicitation programme was held for those who celebrated silver and golden wedding jubilee during the last year.
During the occasion, Fr Valerian Pinto was felicitated as a mark of completing golden years of his priesthood who was also the former assistant parish priest at Omzoor in the year 1974-76. During his talk, he brought back all his memories 50 years back.
Winners of Crib and Star competitions, conducted by Catholic Sabha Omzoor, were announced and honoured with the cash prizes. The prizes were sponsored by Lancy D’Souza & Fly Omzoor, Dubai.
A cultural event was organized by various wards. Roshni D’Souza, member of SCC, proposed the vote of thanks. Roylin Saldanha and Hancil Rodrigues compered the programme. To conclude the SCC Day celebration a fellowship dinner was served which was prepared by 18 Ward members.
