Mangaluru, Mar 20: A newly-wed man killed himself by pouring petrol at the house of his wife’s relatives at Mucchilakodi under Konaje police station limits on Sunday evening March 19.
The deceased is identified as Harish (33), son of Babu Shettigar, a resident of Kanyana in Vittal. He was working as a gardener of Infosys company at Mudipu for the past 10 years.
Harish had married girl from Siddakatte Sangabettu. She is seven months pregnant now. On March 12, Harish called Ramesh Shettigar, son of his aunt and said that he has got ash and tin in his bag and someone has done black magic on him. Ramesh asked Harish to come to his house on Sunday.
As per Ramesh’s instructions, Harish had been to his house on Sunday evening. However, he took petrol in a can along with him. Before the beginning of discussion with regards to the incident of black magic, Harish poured petrol on himself in the verandah of the house and lit fire. The inmates of Ramesh’s house got shocked and informed Konaje police immediately. Police rushed to the spot and took Harish to hospital via ambulance. But Harish died on the way. Harish, who was half burnt, boarded the ambulance by himself.
Ramesh Shettigar was the cousin brother of Harish. Ramesh’s wife is the daughter of aunt of Harish’s wife. Hence, the marriage of Harish happened within close relatives. It is learnt that Harish had earlier accused his wife of not speaking to him and not hearing things properly. Financially, Harish was well off and had also decided to hold the baby shower for his pregnant wife by the end of March.
Konaje police have registered a case of suicide.
