Bangalore: Ruffians to Rub Shoulders with Police in Night Patrolling

Bangalore, Jun 10: The police department plans to utilize the services of people who have been enlisted as rowdies after venturing into the criminal world on account of various reasons. The department feels that this will help transform their mindsets, as these people, who are always viewed with an eye of suspicion, get a chance to win over the trust of the police and the people, thereby bringing changes in their behaviour.

This was stated by city joint police commissioner, Alok Kumar, while speaking to reporters here on Thursday June 9. It may be recalled that the home minister had recently passed instructions, making it mandatory for people in the list of rowdies to visit the respective police stations once every month, and file particulars of their jobs, income, and family maintenance. During these visits, it will be ensured that the family members of the concerned accompany the rowdies. In addition to collecting all the information the persons concerned provide in the presence of their family members, their connections with criminal world, if the allegations are backed by proper evidences, will also be laid bare before them. The advice from the family, parents and children can have a positive affect on the behaviour of the criminals, the police department feels.

“We will take people in the list of rowdies with us while going on night patrolling. This will create awareness among them about the fact that committing a crime is easy, and detecting the criminals is difficult. None of the rowdies want to remain so all their life and they do not want their children to adopt this profession. It will be a welcome development if emotional factors succeed in reforming the minds of criminals,” he added.
