Bangalore: Lokayukta Police Trap Yeilds Rs 1.10 Crore Assets


Bangalore, Jun 3 (PTI): A trap by Belgaum district Lokayukta police who had demanded illegal gratification to show certain official favours from a BESCOM (Belgaum Electric Supply Company) has led them to discovery of unaccounted wealth amounting to Rs 1.10 crore.

On a complaint filed by Muddaiah Bikshavathimath of Sirsangi village in Savadatti taluk of Belgaum district that BESCOM Executive Engineer S T Mitagara has been demanding Rs 25,000 to sanction electrical transformer to him, Lokayukta police caught the officer red handed while accepting the money.

Later the Lokayukta police conducted searches on the premises of the official at Belgaum and Bailahongal and uncovered disproportionate assets amassed by him.

The official had in his possession bank balance, fixed deposits and cash certificates worth Rs 51.60 lakh, besides 1.4 kgs gold valued at Rs 33.50 lakh and a building worth Rs 10 lakh in Belgaum, a Lokayukta release said here.

The accused has been arrested, it said.
