Udupi, Jun 2: An unauthorized transformer that was installed to supply electricity to a private commercial complex located at Kunjalu Cross Road in Brahmavar, caused electrocution of two cows on Wednesday June 1.
The local residents gathered in large numbers to express their anger over the unsecured transformer that endangers the life of people passing by.
Locals urged MESCOM, the public utility provider, to relocate the transformer, that was installed without the permission of the village council, to a secured spot.
MESCOM officials disconnected the electricity supply. District electrical inspector Netravati, and Brahmavar MESCOM officer Divakar Aithal arrived at the spot and began investigations.
Local JD(S) leader Satish Poojary Barkoor, Chantaru gram panchayat president Jayanti Vasudev, members Dinesh, Mahesh Moily, Umesh Shetty Heroor, and Nagarika Horata Samiti president Sadashiv Shetty were present on the occasion.
The building owner paid the compensation to Brahmavar Nagesh Pai and Renuka, the owners of the deceased cows.
