Bengaluru, Jan 14: Alliance University, one of the leading private universities in India and South India’s first private university, successfully hosted its annual convocation ceremony at the university's central campus in Anekal, Bengaluru. The event was attended by a large number of graduates and their families.
Dr C N Ashwath Narayan urged graduates to apply their education to improve society. He praised Alliance University for its efforts to establish Bengaluru as a cultural hub in the country.
The convocation was presided over by Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, pro-visitor of Alliance University and minister for higher education, IT & BT, science and technology, and skill development, entrepreneurship, and livelihood of the government of Karnataka with justice S R Bannurmath, chairman of the Karnataka Law Commission and Harshit Singhal, managing director of HashedIn by Deloitte, as the guests of honor.
The ceremony began with a welcome address by the pro-chancellor Abhay G Chebbi who congratulated the graduates on their academic performance and encouraged them to strengthen their networking and communication abilities, develop relevant skills periodically, think like an entrepreneur and develop qualities of leadership.
This was followed by the university's annual report presented by Dr Anubha Singh, vice-chancellor of Alliance University. She gave an overview of the university's history and achievements, mentioning that this year marks the 25th anniversary of Alliance Education and the university's vision to be a world-class institution that transforms lives through excellence in teaching, research, and community development. She highlighted the university's excellent infrastructure, accolades, experienced full-time faculty, and focus on research and innovation.
The highlight of the event was the keynote address by Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, who congratulated the graduates and urged them to use their education for the betterment of society. He extended congratulations to the board of governors, members of the academic council, leadership Team, Faculty and Staff for being an innovative institution, and best wishes to the graduating students for a remarkable future. He reflected on the role of the institution in shaping future leaders and the evolving higher education sector in India. He mentioned the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) in the state of Karnataka and the state's goal to completely implement it in the next 10 years and contribute to the national growth story. He also mentioned about the growth of Alliance University, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2022 and has diversified into liberal education and hosted literary festivals at the campus.
Later, Harshit Singhal, managing director of HashedIn by Deloitte, encouraged the graduates to continue learning and to be ready for the constant changes and disruptions happening in the world. He urged them to become a trusted advisor and to make decisions based on credibility and reliability, rather than solely for their own benefit. He emphasized the importance of doing something they love and having fun in their work, as it is essential for success and giving their best. Singhal highlighted the key to success as being a combination of learning, becoming a trusted advisor, and taking pleasure in one's work.
The speeches concluded with justice S R Bannurmath, chairman of the Karnataka Law Commission, acknowledging the role of parents, family members, and teachers in the graduates' success and encouraged them to take advantage of opportunities and contribute to society. He also noted that as a young country, the graduates have a significant role to play in shaping India's future.
The event concluded with the presentation of medals and merit certificates to students who excelled in their specializations, the conferral of degrees and diplomas to all graduates, bringing the ceremony to a memorable finish. The convocation saw graduation of 2445 students of which 1615 received degrees; 830 received diplomas; and 14 received doctoral degrees. Medals and merit certificates were awarded to 161 rank holders.
