Mangaluru, Jan 9: The departments of Aeronautical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Marine Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering of Srinivas Institute of Technology, Valachil Mangaluru jointly organized a five-day Faculty Development Programme on 'Electrical Vehicle Technology' from January 9 to 13. Dr K V Gangadharan, professor of Mechanical Engineering and coordinator at the Centre for System Design at NITK Suratkal, Karnataka was the chief guest of inaugural ceremony.
The formal opening of the Faculty Development Programme was marked by the lighting of a lamp by the dignitaries. Dr Shrinivasa Mayya D, principal of the Srinivas Institute of Technology, presided over the event and emphasized the importance of attending the program in his presidential address. He also highlighted the potential of Electrical Vehicle Technology in the near future and congratulated the organizing departments for selecting such an innovative topic for the program. Professor Vivek Vijay Kumar, assistant professor, Department of Marine Engineering, welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest, Dr K V Gangadharan. The convener of the programme, Dr Praveen Shenoy, associate professor, department of Aeronautical Engineering gave a brief overview of the various sessions which covered topics such as the basics of EV technology, battery technology, and the experimental dynamics of EV vehicles. Dr Ramakrishna N Hegde, head of the Aeronautical and Automobile Engineering Department was also present at the event. Professor Srinidhi Kukkila, assistant professor, department of Aeronautical Engineering delivered the vote of thanks. Prithuesh P B and Asma Shekh, third-semester students, served as the masters of ceremonies.
Formal Function was followed by the keynote address by Dr K V Gangadharan on the topic 'Introduction to Electrical Vehicles and their Technology'. During his presentation, the professor explained different EV technologies, including Hybrid, Plug-in, Fuel Cell EVs and discussed the challenges in their development. He also demonstrated several Electrical Vehicles developed at NITK in Suratkal, including those used for in-house purposes and for patrolling the Kudremukh National Forest region.
