Mangaluru, Nov 28: On the occasion of the Annual General Body Meeting of the Alumnae Association of St Ann’s College of Education (Autonomous), Mangaluru, the Mother Josephine Memorial Lecture 2022 was held on November 26 in the college conference hall.
Prof. Dr M S Moodithaya, pro vice-chancellor Nitte (Deeemed to be University), Mangaluru and chief guest delivered the lecture on the topic 'Leadership Skills for Empowered Women'. Quoting the words of Roy Bennett, “Look back to move forward”, the speaker spoke about how education as an empowering factor reflects on training people to be efficient leaders. If one has to make a mark, then avoiding a participatory contest and preparing personal balance sheets with analysing one’s own assets and liabilities would yield a qualitative result, he said.
Bringing into light the words of the saint Kabir, the speaker touched upon how a good leader does not procrastinate. The outcomes of empowerment were emphasized by giving life illustrations of great women. One needs to prioritise goals and be action oriented and this will consciously bring a modification in a leader. A good number of audience interacted with the speaker during the open discussion and gave an enrichment to the lecture. The speaker concluded with the words 'Any change to bring in must start with the mind, habit and character. Move from unconscious competence to conscious competence in order to achieve success'.
Dr Sr Dorothy D’Souza, A C, the president of Alumnae Association welcomed and introduced the chief guest. A total of 250 alumnae were present. Dr Sharmila Masacrenhas, secretary of Alumnae Association rendered vote of thanks and coordinated the programme. Caroline Lobo, member of the Alumnae and former BEd student compered the programme.
The annual general body meeting was held where the minutes of the previous meeting, report of activities and budget statement were read out. The planning of activities and reflections on the lecture was conducted. Dr Farita Veigas, principal, St Aloysius Institute of Education, Mangaluru and executive member organised interesting games during the meet.
