Udupi, May 16: "It is important to study folk culture and tradition along with collection of various topics related to the same for its preservation, said Mangalore University registrar K Chinnappa Gowda.
He was speaking after honouring Paltady Ramakrishna Achar, janapada scholar and Shankar Pambada Thonse with Bannanje Baba Amin Award bestowed by Kemmalaje Janapada Prakashana here at Kidiyoor Hall on Sunday May 15. Paltady was honoured with Janapada Vidvamsa award, while Thonse with Janapada Kalavida award. "Folk Artistes are the real kings of folk tradition. However, folk scholars and artistes cannot be separated as they are the two units of the folk tradition, added Gowda.
Babu Amin's book Devvanele and Aati Sona were released on the occasion.
Prakashana president Dr Gananath Yekkar presided. MLA Raghupati Bhat among others were present.
