Mangaluru: 143rd annual sports meet of St Aloysius PU College held

Mangaluru, Nov 18: The 143rd annual sports meet of St Aloysius PU College was held at Gonzaga ground on Friday November 18.

Forest officer Shashank J Rai was the chief guest for the sports meet. Shashank J Rai, a gold medallist at South Asian basketball championship and alumni of St Aloysius institution, was present.

Addressing the gathering, Shashank J Rai recalled his days in St Aloysius institutions where he took part in many annual sports days which helped him bring laurels in sports. “Winning or losing does not matter, participating is very important,” he said.

Rector of St Aloysius Institutions Fr Melwin Pinto said, “We need to encourage individuals who comes last in athletic events and not laugh at them. We need to participate in sports events, without thinking the outcome of results.”

Sports secretary Abhisha Shetty administered the oath. Torch bearers were Rexon Noronha, Reshieal Roshni Monteiro, Jithesh A, Nisha Valrie Aranha, Mohammed Afnan, Jenica D’Souza, Puneesh Roy, Stanislaus Francis Braganza, Adithi Pushparaj Shetty, Navya Prathiksha, Reiner Gonsalves and Vinushree.

Principal of St Aloysius PU College Fr Clifford Sequeira, campus minister Fr Sujay Daniel, vice principals Charlotte D’Souza and Murali Krishna GM, deans Dr Pradeep M and Kiran Shetty, physical education directors Naveen Kumar and Usha AJ, director laboratory of applied biology Dr Leo D’Souza, director of St Aloysius ITI Fr John D’Souza and others were present.

Sports coordinator Alwyn Saldanha welcomed the gathering. Aman Bangera and Jovita Emmanuel compered the event.
