Mangaluru, Nov 15: The departments of UG and PG Physics, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), in association with Poornaprajna Institute of Scientific Research (PPISR), Bengaluru organised a day-long seminar on “Frontiers in Physics” on November 15 in Robert Sequeira Hall of LCRI Block.
Dr Praveen Martis, SJ, principal, presided over the inaugural programme. Prof Lawrence J M Pinto, HOD of UG Physics, Dr Ronald Nazareth, dean - International Affairs and Ranjith Kumar and Dr Rahul S from PPISR were present on the dais.
Dr Praveen Martis in his speech recalled his research days at Belgium. He along with other scientists got opportunity to visit Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experimental site at France and got the view of fantastic experiments. He also narrated how these kinds of experiments help to understand the nature and its secrets. He congratulated PPISR scientists for their collaboration and the department of Physics for organizing such a relevant programme.
Prof Lawrence Pinto welcomed the gathering and stressed the importance of collaboration for the research activities. Dr Nilakanthan V K, convener of the programme compered the programme and proposed the vote of thanks. Y R Karthik briefed about Poornaprajna Institute of Scientific Research (PPISR), Bengaluru. There were 3 sessions during the programme by the scientists of PPISR, Bengaluru. Ranjith Kumar spoke on the theme “Topological Enigma in Physics”; Dr Rahul S spoke on the theme “Floating Condensed Matter Islands” and Vinod N Rao spoke on the theme “Randomness Information and Quantum Mechanics. MSc Students participated in the event.
