Bantwal, May 12: A person who tried to settle a quarrel between two groups in a marriage feast by mediating between them, died after being thrashed. The incident occurred at Tippunagar near Lorettopadavu here on Tuesday May 11.
The daughter of a close relative of Abdul Khader (45) had been married recently. On Tuesday, a function in connection with the ritual of taking the bride to the house of the groom had been arranged. At the function, two groups of youth fought with each other, after a verbal duel. When Abdul Khader intervened and tried to pacify the fighting gangs, he was reportedly pushed to the ground and kicked. Khader, who developed uneasiness, died on way to a hospital.
On a complaint filed by the relatives of the deceased, a case was registered in the town police station here. Locals, Mohammed Riaz, Salman, Farooq, Ansar, Jabbar, Mansoor, Ashiq, Issac, and Imtiaz were arrested and produced in court.
