Udupi, May 11: The policemen have succeeded in arresting Vasudeva Nayak from Atrady in the taluk, accused of killing his sleeping son, Vishwas Nayak (10) when the boy was sleeping on the night of May 4. A police team headed by Manipal police inspector, H D Kulkarni, nabbed him. The policemen said that Nayak, who often turned mentally unstable after failing to run his business gainfully, confessed that he had indeed killed his son.
“My wife used to fight with me and created ruckus even for frivolous issues. I grew angry, and in a fit of range, killed my son,” he is said to have told the police. He said that his wife, Lalita, working in a hospital in Manipal, had left home for night shift duty on May 4. “After dinner, my son and daughter slept. But because I was angry with my wife, I could not sleep. At around 12 am, I killed my son by tightening a rope around his neck,” he confessed. The policemen revealed that Nayak was repentant over what he did.
The police have learnt that after killing his son, Nayak slept in his bed till 5 am, made tea at home, consumed it, and reached Atrady town in his two-wheeler. From there, he caught a bus bound for Karkala. It is said that he visited Dharmasthala, Murdeshwar, Sringeri and other places, before returning to Karkala.
The accused was produced in the court on Tuesday. Further investigation is on.
