Mangalore, May 6: ‘Operation Sagar Kavach’, undertaken all over the coast to test the preparedness level of the police and security agencies, ended at 6 pm on Thursday may 5.
In addition to the civil police, personnel of coastal security police, Coast Guard, and seamen of the navy were involved with this operation. Extensive vigil was kept, movements of suspicious-looking persons were closely monitored, and bags and vehicles of people were checked during the operation.
The operation lasted from 6 am on Wednesday, to 6 pm on Thursday. During the operation, four dummy terrorists were arrested by the coastal security policemen at Panambur and Bengre areas. Sources said that two were arrested on Wednesday evening, while two more were nabbed on Thursday morning.
‘Nakabandi’, heightened police security at strategic places, bus and railway stations etc, were noticed during this period.
