Puttur, Oct 13: The Catholic Board of Education (CBE) of Mangalore diocese appointed professor Ganesh Bhat, the head of the department of Mathematics and Dr AP Radhakrishna, IQAC coordinator and head of the department of Physics as vice-principals of St Philomena College, Puttur. In place of professor Udaya Kana, who superannuated, very recently, the management has appointed them as vice-principals.
Professor Ganesh Bhat, Kombarage has done his post-graduation in Mathematics and MPhil from Mangalore University. In 1988, he was appointed as Mathematics lecturer by Catholic Board of Education (CBE), Mangaluru and joined St Philomena College, Puttur.
In 36 years of an illustrious career, professor Genesh Bhat successfully carried out various posts of responsibilities entrusted in the college as well as the university. He was a member of the Board of Studies (BOS) and Board of Examination BOE, chairman of Evaluvation in Mathematics of Mangalore University as well as various Autonomous institutions affiliated to Mangalore University, president of Mangalore University Mathematics Teachers forum (FORMAT), director of Science Forum, Student welfare officer, secretary of Staff Association, secretary of PTA, Student Council director, NAAC coordinator at the time of NAAC team visit to the college (2016), convener of Discipline Board, and the coordinator of Postgraduation programme in Mathematics. Professor Ganesh Bhat Kombraje organized number of workshops, seminars and conferences and also participated as the resource person in schools and colleges.
Dr AP Radhakrishna did his Post Graduate in Physics and PhD in Nuclear Physics from Mangalore University, began his teaching career at St Philomena College in 1986. From 2003 -2010 he has also served at Vivekananda College, Puttur, on deputation. He was a the member of the Board of Studies (BOS) and Board of Examination (BOE) in Physics, of Mangalore University as well as various Autonomous institutions affiliated to Mangalore University (APTM, director of Science Forum. From 2014, he is the coordinator of IQAC and presently the coordinator of the Press and Public committee.
Dr AP Radhakrishna has passion towards Science writing and the Science popularization and regularly writing Science articles in newspapers and magazines, published books, delivering lectures at School and Colleges, closely associated with the activities of Pilikula Regional Science Center and established the St.Philoemna Ametuere Astronomy Club (SPAAC) and has been conducting Astronomy related programs to reach the general public. He is actively involved in Research and published research papers in International Journals, completed UGC sponsored minor research project, participated as resource person in Seminars, webinars, organized UGC sponsored workshops and seminars, has received grant of 30 lakhs to set up Science Research Center at the College rom VGST - the Science and Technology cell, Government of Karnataka.
Jerome Lawrence Mascarenhas, the correspondent, and Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, the principal of the college, Fr Stany Pinto, the campus director congratulated and wished success to professor Ganesh Bhat Kombraje and Dr AP Radhakrishna, for their appointment as the vice-principals of the college.
