Recipes - Fish Jeere Meeri (Jeera Pepper)

Ingredients:

6 – 8 medium  lady fish (Kane fish)  or 50 silver fish

To grind:

3 - 4 small red chillies
 6 - 7 long red chillies /kashmiri chillies 
1 medium onion 
¼  tsp. jeera/cumin
5-6 pepper corns
5-6 garlic flakes
Marble size of tamarind 
½ tsp. turmeric  powder

Seasoning:

2 tbsp. oil
1 onion (sliced)
½  tsp. sugar (optional)
Salt as per taste

Method:

Clean fish and set aside.  Grind the ingredients mentioned above to a fine paste adding little water.  Reserve the masala  water separately after grinding.  Heat oil and fry sliced onion till light brown, add the masala paste and salt and fry the masala for two  to three minutes.  Keep on adding masala water little by little and fry until the raw aroma fades. Adjust the consistency of the gravy to medium thick by adding enough water and bring to a boil. Add sugar ( optional).  Add the fish and  give a boil.
Serve with steamed rice.

    I add 2-3 tablespoons coconut and 1tsp coriander to the masala and it comes out thick and tasty. No short chilly. Only long chilly.

    thanks for the recipe. It is a age old recipe. if cocunut milk or cashewnut with almond milk its taste is unexplainable... try out.. you will not only eat and enjoy but lick even your fingers.. sugar is not at all needed then...

    I prepared this dish and came out very well....thanks for the receipe. I did not added the sugar.Added a little corriender seeds in masala.
