Bellary, Apr 21 (PTI): Iron ore worth about Rs six crore was seized from over 50 bogies of a goods train during a raid at Yeshwanthpur railway station in the district today.
"On a tip-off, we conducted a raid and seized 3,840 tons of iron ore from 59 bogies of a goods train which was being illegally transported to a steel plant in Andhra Pradesh", Range Forest Officer-Sandur taluk, Ramamurthy, told PTI.
The iron ore was being transported on fake permits and duplicate documents. "We have seized all these and will hand it over to the government", he said. Ramamurthy said railway officials had been informed about the seizure and would inspect the seized iron ore.
Illegal mining is rampant in the Sandur region of the district.
