Mangaluru, Sep 13: The Manipal School organized and hosted a "Career Counselling Session" for the students and parents of grade X on September 10 at the Manipal College of Dental Sciences (MCODS). This session was presented by Dr Ananth Prabhu G, a cybersecurity expert, professor in computer engineering at the Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management and an acclaimed author. He is also a guest faculty at the Karnataka Police Academy and Karnataka Judicial Academy.
The session that was aimed at facilitating career choices and stream selection for grade X students and their mentors, was attended by more than 200 participants including Anuradha Shivaram, principal, Manipal School; students of grade X and their parents; and teachers of Manipal School.
The event emceed by Tr Vandana Nayak opened with a welcome address by principal Anuradha Shivaram who also shared the good news of receiving the CBSE grant letter for upgradation of school to 11th and 12th standard, with the audience. The guest speaker was introduced by Tr. Srilatha Alva, High School Coordinator, Manipal School.
The session covered various topics of importance for grade X students who are at the crossroads of making their career decisions; like career planning, importance of being self-reliant, handling adversities, and strategies to score more in exams. Dr Ananth in his unique interactive style interspersed with entertaining anecdotes provided insights to the participants on how to know one’s inner strengths and abilities using strategies like the VARK test to know learning styles, Left-Right Brain test and SWOT Analysis. The importance of 'Emotional Contagion' was touched upon to guide students to choose the right company and environment to reach their desired goals.
The 90-minute session was enriched with factual information on a wide array of topics ranging from the fastest growing occupations in the coming decade, possible career options for each subject combinations at higher secondary level to 'Brain foods' and brain exercise apps like 'Neurobics' that will help students to sharpen their skills and prepare them better for their dream career. He also stressed on the importance of NEP 2020 and the revolutionary changes in the Indian education system that would benefit the students.
Dr Ananth also addressed the Q&A session by answering queries of parents and students related to choice of subjects, decision between CBSE and state board, prospects of studying abroad, and others related to the diverse career options available in each stream. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks being delivered by Tr Reshma Rao. The programme was extremely appreciated by students and parents of Grade X as it helped them to gain a comprehensive understanding of the diverse and dynamic career pathways available in the world of work.
