Doha, Sep 9: Mangalore cricket club (MCC) were deserving winners in the Maiden Bunts Qatar men’s volleyball tournament organized by Bunts Qatar which was held on August 25 and 26 at Iranian School Indoor Facility Doha Qatar.
The nail biting finals was held between MCC and MCA Qatar. Large number of audience witnessed some exciting thrilling matches during preliminary rounds with enthusiasm and supporters turning up in large numbers cheering their teams which lit up a sportive atmosphere in the court.
Altogether eight Qatar based Indian organizations teams participated in the tournament, official oath taking ceremony was conducted by general secretary Manas Shetty for the participating teams namely Karnataka Sangha, Tulu Koota 1, Tulu Koota 2, Mangalore Cricket Club, Mangalore Cultural Association, South Kanara Muslim Welfare Association, Qatar Tamil Sangham and hosts Bunts Qatar.

The tournament started out with a bang with a grand opening ceremony on August 25 with chief guest Captain Mohan Atla, Defence Attache, Embassy of India and guest of honour J Chidanand Naik general manager M Pallonji Qatar who was also the main sponsor of the event. President of Bunts Qatar Dr Padmashree Shetty Welcomed all the dignitaries, teams, sponsors, supporters and presided over the event. Heads of Indian based apex bodies and presidents and office bearers of various Indian organizations were present during the event. The inaugural programme was compered by Chaitali Suhas Shetty which was followed by In House Tiny Tots dancing to the FIFA World cup 2022 song.
The event was managed successfully by the technical team Ramachandra Shetty, Anil Boloor, Sudhakar Shetty, Dhananjay Shetty, Shekar Shetty and Roshan Shetty. Tournament referees Jayson and Saleem along with Bunts Qatar MC Team and volunteers.
Bunts Qatar advisory chairman Deepak Shetty and advisor Navaneeth Shetty supported the MC Team with their valuable inputs and guidance.
Well known commentators Abdul Salam, Naveen Shetty Iruvail and Chidanand Rai kept the audience entertained throughout the tournament with their lively commentary.
The Closing ceremony was held on August 26 With Subramanya Hebbagilu, vice president ICC Qatar along With Vinod Nair president ICBF and Dr Mohan Thomas president ISC, J Chidanand Naik general manager M Pallonji Qatar and senior Mangalorean Entrepreneur Felix Lobo, managing director of Carencure Abdul Rehman as guests of honour. President of Bunts Qatar Dr Padmashree Shetty in her welcome address thanked all the teams for participating teams for making the event a grand success and also thanked the MC Team vice president Dineshchandra Shetty, general secretary Manas Shetty, treasurer Manohar Shetty, joint secretary Avinash Shetty, joint cultural secretary Bharathi Dhanajay Shetty, membership coordinator Subhashchandra Shetty and children’s coordinator Keerthi Damodar Shetty for all their efforts put in to make the event a memorable one.
The final programme was compered by Dhanalaksmi Anil Shetty. Treasurer Manohar Shetty delivered the vote of thanks. Entertainment show by D MASTERS dance group and In house Tiny Tots added more festivity to the celebrations.
