Mangaluru, Sep 8: Mount Carmel Central School celebrated the Nativity Feast and the Nature Festivals on September 7.
The programme for the seniors was hosted by the students of grade IX A and B. It began by invoking the divine blessings of Mother Mary through a prayer service. Miss Edel Lewis welcomed the gathering, followed by a group of dancers welcoming the audience by tapping to the beats of various elements of nature. Portraying the significance of the day through a role play, the prominence of Nativity Feast was presented depicting the birth of Mother Mary. The importance of family was highlighted and an insight on various nature festivals across India was provided. Further, the students also illustrated the importance of Girl Child Day, emphasizing on the need to empower a girl child. Adding to the spectacle, the students danced to the tunes of various harvest festivals of India. Later, as part of the celebration, a student representative presented fresh harvest to the dignitaries on the dais. Teacher Silvia Fernandes, the chief guest in her speech, wished the students on the occasion of Nativity, the birthday of our Mother Mary and also stressed on the importance of a girl child. She highlighted numerous nature festivals celebrated in India and appreciated the efforts of Grade IX A and B for presenting a meaningful program. Sr Melissa, the Principal addressing the students invited them to rejoice on the birthday of Mother Mary, the patroness of the school and also to rejoice with Mother Nature. She motivated the students to respect and revere their mother’s and also to treat every girl child and every woman with reverence. Miss Sanortia delivered the vote of thanks. Anvilla, Amabel, Jayden and Steve compered the programme.
The festivity at the nursery section kick started where the tiny tots who in all the purity of their life thanked the divine for the bounties of nature and for their loving and caring families. September being a memorable month where we honour the teachers with love and celebrate various nature festivals, the little children tapped their feet, waved their hands in joy to the beat of the music. The chief guest, teacher Sheeba Celestin appreciated and applauded the children for their meaningful performance and for their love for the teachers. She also cited the reason behind this festivity of being grateful to nature along with the family members during the nature festivals. The pookalam prepared by the parent’s added festivity to the celebration.
The students of LKG and UKG paid a fitting tribute to Mother Mary and the bounty of nature through their varied and creative programme, which commenced invoking the Almighty through prayer. The chief guest of the day Vinaya D'Souza, principal, SCS Pre School, Mangaluru was given a rhythmic welcome by the tiny tots. The cultural programme showcasing the varied culture of Monthi Fest, Onam and Ganesh Chathurthi had in it an aura of festivity. It also sent out a strong message of family bonding and contribution towards nature. The farmers were paid a fitting tribute through a dance. The culture of festivity of Onam was brought out magnificently which transported the audience to God’s own country Kerala. The worth of a girl child was presented in all its wonder through a dance drama. The Marian devotion was highlighted devotedly by swaying to the famous Konkani hymn. The chief guest Vinaya D'Souza congratulated the tiny tots for their superb performance. In her message, she appreciated and acknowledged the creativity and hard work of the teachers. She also highlighted the three virtues of Mother Mary, namely obedience, humility and selflessness. She reminded every one of the responsibility towards saving nature. The administrator Sr Carissima blessed the children and wished them the joy of the family feast.
Teacher Neetha accorded the welcome and teacher Joyce delivered the vote of thanks. The Onam pookalam prepared by the teachers was a feast to the eyes. Thus the day was indeed a day of festivity of cultures.
