Beltangady, Apr 19: Hemant (8), son of Yashodhar and Prema, natives of Goliangady in Kukkedi village, died after a tipper crushed him near Venur on Monday April 18. He was a second standard student of Kumbhashree English Medium School. He is survived by parents and a younger brother.

Hemant was returning home after attending a programme organized at Venur Lord Mahalingeshwara Tempe culminating in community feast. His mother was with him at the time of the tragedy.  Reportedly, the boy, immediately after alighting from the bus, crossed the road, without noticing that a tipper was coming from the opposite direction.

The tipper was being driven by Anand from Beltangady towards Moodbidri. The rear wheels of the tipper crushed the skull of the boy, killing him instantly. On a complaint lodged by the grandfather of the boy, Janardan Acharya, a case was registered in Venur police station.
