Mangaluru, Sep 6: “We are a country that has given the Guru the status of God. God loves those who respect teachers. Ours is a very ancient civilization where there is science in every ritual that we practice.”, said Prof Dr Udayakumar R Yaragatti, former director in-charge, NITK, Suratkal. He was addressing the students and teachers as the chief guest on the occasion of Teachers’ Day celebration at the Cultural Centre in Expert Pre University College, Valachil campus.
The formal programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. The dignitaries and the guest offered floral tributes to Dr. S Radhakrishnan, a great teacher the former President of India. As part of ‘Guruvandana’ the students honoured the teachers with gifts amidst the ritual of chanting of Veda mantras and sought the blessings from the teachers.
Teachers blessed all the students with traditional mantrakshate. Prof Narendra L. Nayak, chairman, Expert Group of Institutions said that the biggest reward for a teacher is the loving appreciation from students. Teaching is a noble profession and teachers should work towards bringing dignity to this profession.
Delivering the keynote address on the importance of teachers’ day, Dr Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice chairperson, Expert Group of Institutions said that teaching is a profession of sacrifices and advised the students to be ever grateful to their teachers.
Balakrishna Shetty from the department of chemistry and Mr Shyam Prasad from the department of mathematics shared their experiences on behalf of teaching community.
Ankush N Nayak, director, Information Technology, Expert Group of Institutions, architect Deepika A Nayak, Raghavendra Shenoy, vice principal (admin), Subramanya Udupa, vice principal (academics) were present on the occasion.
Indira Priyadarshini, vice president, Student Parliament, Master Himanshu P Dev joint general secretary accorded a warm welcome to the dignitaries. Dr N.K.Vijayan Karippal, principal proposed vote of thanks.
Shifa and Ganesh compered the programme. The formal programme was followed by cultural extravaganza by students. Harshitha, Bhoomika, Saloni Kallur and Ayush hosted the cultural programme.
