Mangalore: ‘City Buses Will Move Up to Fishing Port’ – DC

Mangalore, Apr 19: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Subodh Yadav, promised to take steps to extend city buses till the fishing port in Old Bunder area in the city, for the convenience of fishermen. He was speaking after presiding over a meeting relating to fishing, held in the city on Monday April 18.

At the meeting, the fishermen complained that some miscreants have been threatening and forcing the fishermen returning after conducting fishing in the sea, to part with their catches of prawns, pomfrets, and some other varieties of fish that are in great demand. They requested the deputy commissioner to protect them from these ruffians.

Discussions were also held about conducting dredging work in Gurpur river, floating jetty being built about 16 kms off New Mangalore Port, pipelines, etc. Deputy director of fisheries department, and office bearers of various fishermen’s associations were present.
