Mangaluru, Sep 1: “At work, at play, let the good posture lead the way”. With this slogan, the Department of Physiotherapy, Fr Muller Medical College in association with The Mangalore Round Table 115 and Mangalore Ladies Club 82 conducted a Wellness Drive for the students of Mount Carmel Central School as part of the World Physiotherapy Day, which is observed on the September 8 of every year.
Jennifer Fernandes, the vice president of PTA and the immediate past chairperson of the Mangalore Ladies Circle 82 welcomed the gathering. Jennifer was accompanied by Haron Fernandes, chairman, Mangalore Round Table 115 and Monisha Lobo, chairperson, Mangalore Ladies Circle 82.
Dr Alisha Lobo, a physiotherapist and lecturer at Fr Muller Medical College and Hospital interacted with the student audience with great enthusiasm. With her great interactive skills, she was able to deliver the importance of a great posture in an engaging way. Dr Alisha along with her students, who are currently pursuing their degree in physiotherapy, enacted a play to emphasise on how a good posture today can lead the way for a better future.
She made it known to the students that a physiotherapist treats our aches and pains with exercise and not medications and injections. The importance of a good posture was shown through a power-point presentation and the students were enthralled by the visual aids. The significance of physical activity, a healthy balanced diet, avoiding electronic gadgets during bed time and getting adequate amount of sleep was stressed upon.
At the end of the session, students took the pledge under Swachhta Pakhwada programme, to keep their classrooms and homes clean.
Teacher Purnima proposed a vote of thanks and thanked the organisers for their interest and efforts put in organising the wellness drive on the occasion of World Physiotherapy Day.
