Dharwad, Apr 14: Veteran singer and disciple of Pt Bhimsen Joshi, Pt Madhav Gudi (69), is down with liver-related complications since the last three weeks. Financially, Gudi, who has been inspiring people and giving them celestial experiences through his soulful singing since long, has continued to be unstable.

The recent death of his idol and guru, Pt Bhimsen Joshi, had jolted Gudi, who participated in innumerable concerts with his guru. He continues to grieve the death of Joshi, his family members say.

Madhav Gudi is known for his unique style of singing, which is built on the foundation of Kirana Gharana. His Tanas (pattern of singing) have endeared him to the masses because of variety and his excellent control over breath. Noticing the fact that Gudi knitted together emotions and singing, the late Pt Joshi had always looked after him as his son.

Prasanna, son of Madhav Gudi, revealed that during check up at Jupiter Hospital Mumbai, doctors said that holes have formed in Gudi’s liver, and that this condition can be healed through medicines. “At present, Dr Ajit Joshi of Citi Clinic Hubli has been taking care of his health. Many of his fans have come forward to meet cost of treatment,” he added.
