Udupi, Aug 22: The Manipal Institute of Technology celebrated Akshay Urja Diwas on August 20 where in 400 students from government schools of Udupi and Brahmawar were sensitized about solar energy and the dire consequences of climate change through a workshop.
The workshop included hands-on training for school students to assemble solar lamps. Assembled solar lamps in this workshop were distributed to all the student participants along with school teachers.
N K Shivaraj (deputy director of public instruction, Udupi), Jahnavi (education officer, Udupi), Ashok Kamath (block education officer, Udupi), commander Dr Anil Rana (director, MIT), and Dr Somashekara Bhat (joint-director, MIT) were in attendance to bolster the energy swaraj message.
Dr Naresh Kumar Mani, associate professor, department of biotechnology, faculty coordinator (VSO), and several MIT student clubs organised this event. Dr Vijendra Prabhu of MIT's department of biotechnology served as master of ceremonies for the stage programme.
Dr Praveen Kumar, Dr Sucheta Kolekar, Dr Mohammad Zuber, and Manoj from MIT were also present.
