Mangaluru, Aug 22: St Agnes CBSE school recognised the National Librarian Day on August 12. It is commemorated as the birth anniversary of Padmashri Dr S R Ranganathan who is considered as the Father of Library Science in India. He dedicated his entire life to library profession in India leaving a rich legacy.
The school marked the importance of this day through a meaningful prayer service. The significance of the day was highlighted in the morning assembly creating awareness to all about the importance of library and its usefulness.
Under the able guidance of our school librarian Jane, some activities were organised to commemorate this day. A quiz on library was organised for students of grade IX and X. Grade V to VIII students were given to do the book review of their favourite book. The St Agnes Kannada Primary school students were invited to visit the school library and read a few books. The school library has around 15,000 books neatly organised for the students and staff. The students of grade I to IV created their own library corner in their respective classrooms with display of their favourite books.
St Agnes college too arranged a formal programme on this day the students of Grade VIIA and VIIIC attended the programme with our students singing the Nadageethe on the occasion. A book exhibition will be held from to August 13-27.
The management, the administrator, the principal congratulated Jane on this important day and for the good work in maintaining the books systematically and assisting the staff and students to get knowledge on the best books.
