The display of Savarkar photo in the zonal office of MCC at Surathkal has courted controversy. The photo is displayed in the office room meant for use by Dr Bharath Shetty, MLA of Suratkal. Floral tributes were offered to Savarkar by minister Sunil Kumar, MLA Bharath Shetty and Mayor Premanand Shetty during the inauguration.
Netizens are expressing objection over the installation of Savarkar photo in a government office. Responding to the criticism, Dr Bharath Shetty said, “Savarkar’s photo is displayed in the parliament of the country itself. So there is no need for me to get anyone’s permission to display the portrait in my office here. It is left to the individual to decide which photo should be displayed in his or her room. We have not displayed the photos of traitors. The photo is of a person who sacrificed his life for the nation. The next generation should know about Savarkar.”
