Kasargod: Unaccounted Funds Amounting to Rs 30 lac Recovered

Kasargod, Apr 13: The Election Monitoring Committee appointed to keep tab over electoral malpractices, recovered Rs 30 lac that was being transported in a car, from Adkasthala in the taluk on Tuesday April 12. The money so found was not backed by any documentary evidence.

K P Lakshmanan (51), Murali (40), and Prakashan (41), who were travelling in the said car, were taken into custody. The three are being questioned. The committee has tightened its vigilance, as it has received information about widespread use of money to influence the electorate. During routine checking of vehicles at Adkasthala near Badiyadka, the above recovery was made.

The team of officials was led by Shahul Hamid, assistant engineer in the department of irrigation. A plastic bag containing the above money was found stashed away in the boot of the car. The money has been handed over to income tax officials, who in turn, deposited the same in State Bank of India.

District collector, K N Satish, said that an in-depth investigation will be conducted into reports that the money was being taken for distribution among the voters.
