Mangaluru: Independence Day celebrated at St Joseph Engineering College

Mangaluru, Aug 17: On the auspicious occasion of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangaluru celebrated Indias 75 glorious years of Independence with great joy and pomp on August 15 at the college Basketball court.

Air Commodore Sunil Krishna Pai (Retd) graced the occasion as the chief guest and Lt Commander Bharath Kumar, commanding officer, 5 KAR Naval Unit NCC, Mangalore along with Fr Wilfred Prakash DSouza, director of SJEC, Fr Alwyn Richard DSouza, assistant director of SJEC, and Dr Rio DSouza, principal of SJEC were the guests of honour.

 

Dr Ramananda H S, dean of student welfare and Lauline D’Souza, convener of the programme escorted the dignitaries from the quadrangle to the basketball court along with the college band. The dignitaries were escorted to the flag post by leading Cadet Alva Shwetha and Cadet Manoj V S leading cadet Deekshith D of SJEC Naval Wing requested the chief guest to carry out the inspection of the SJEC NCC troops.

While remembering the contributions of all freedom fighters, the chief guest called upon everyone to contribute and work towards the overall development of India as a global leader. He stressed two main aspects which need to be taken care of by the youth. First, cleanliness, which is the need of the hour and second, protecting the environment and nurturing mother nature. He called upon each and everyone to plant a sapling and contribute their bit to nature.

The whole atmosphere was filled with a sense of patriotism by a beautiful patriotic song sung by the college choir.

Dr Ramananda HS, expressed words of gratitude and Shwetha S Kunte from the second year ECE compered the programme. The chief guest along with the dignitaries planted a sapling on the college campus to mark the desire to preserve and protect the environment.

The programme imbibed the spirit of patriotism among the people. Sweets were distributed to all at the end of the programme.
