Mangaluru, Aug 1: A felicitation programme for Kariappa Rai who has rendered his service as a physical director for 34 (30 years in Rosario HS) years was held on Monday, August 1 at the Rosario Cultural Hall.
The retired teacher was welcomed with a guard of honour. The programme commenced with a prayer song and the students welcomed the gathering with a welcome dance. Students expressed their gratitude through a farewell song and as a sign of respect, offered him a bouquet of flowers. Senior teacher Alice K J shared her experience about the service, commitment, discipline, honesty and sincerity of the Rai. Staff members wished him good health and contended retired life through a song. Aloysius D'Souza, headmaster read out the felicitation citation and said that his simple way of living and sincerity has been role model to him and it will be remembered forever.
Kariappa Rai, retired physical director was honoured with a shawl, peta, fruits, flowers and presented a gold coin as a memento. His wife was honoured with a bouquet of flowers.
The retired teacher who received the honour reminisced the events in the 30 years of his career in the institution and thanked the Patroness of the institute, the Queen of the Holy Rosary for blessing and protecting him all through these years. He expressed his gratitude towards all the past correspondents, headmasters and the co-teachers.
He also thanked the present correspondent for the guidance, love and appreciation. He also thanked the Hhadmaster, teaching and non-teaching staff for the love and affection and for the cooperation and presented a gift to the school in memory of his retirement.
He was overjoyed by the presence of the students as well as the alumni in large numbers and expressed his gratitude for the love and respect. Taluk physical education officer (TPEO) Bharath who was the guest, lauded the disciplined life and simple way of living which led him to attain great heights and wished the best for his future. Corporator of port ward Abdul Latheef was present and wished Rai the best.
Jeanette Fernandes, headmistress of Rosario English Medium Higher Primary School who is going to retire was also honoured.
In the presidential address, correspondent Fr Alfred John Pinto said, "It was our privilege to have a dynamic teacher who will be remembered always." He also wished that the retired teacher's new beginning be filled with happy memories of the years he had spent contributing to the success of the school.
The PTA members honoured the teacher by presenting a momento and bouquet of flowers.
Headmaster Aloysius D'Souza, assistant parish priest Fr Vinod Lobo, principal of Rosario College Fr Rockey Fernandes, senior teacher Alice K J, teaching and non-teaching staff, PTA executive committee members, parents, Rosario Parish council vice president Gilbert D'Silva, managing committee members, CRP Hemanth were present.
Teacher Sonia Fernandes welcomed the gathering. Teacher Jacinta Moras thanked everyone for the presence and cooperation. Teacher Pradeep Havanje compered the programme.
