Udupi, Jul 24: A project which will put an end to cow slaughtering is on the anvil at Neelavar Goshala of Pejawar Math. An ambitious project of producing electricity from cow dung is being implemented at this goshala.
More number of orphaned cows are being looked after in this goshala. This will end the biggest social menace of cow theft and selling of cows that have stopped giving milk, faced by the coastal districts.
Neelavar Goshala has been selected for the ambitious project of the union government. Thousands of units of electricity will be generated by this method. The surplus electricity will be sold to Mescom.
The first bio-electricity plant is being constructed at Neelavar goshala. Green signal to this effect has given by the renewable energy department of the union government. Discussion in this regard was held by Pejawar Sree with state minister Bhagawant Khooba recently. This will strengthen the ‘save cow’ project also.
This project is also environmentally-friendly. That is why the union government is encouraging the same. Cow dung for this project will be purchased from Neelavar goshala and other goshalas that are functioning nearby and also people who do animal husbandry. A project of processing cow dung of 5000 cows is being designed keeping in mind the future viability of the plan. It is possible to generate a minimum of 1,200 units of electricity every day.
A slurry of water mixed with cow dung is an excellent manure for agriculture. Goshala can sell the same through tankers to farmers of coastal districts. The cost of the project will run into Rs 10 crore. Detailed project report will be made ready within three months and then approval and grant for the same will be obtained as per present plans.
